Ways to Prevent Child Abuse

Child abuse is an issue that must be addressed by the entire community. The best way to prevent child abuse is to increase public awareness about the legal responsibility to report suspected abuse, provide education about the dynamics of abuse, understand its long term effects, and most importantly, empower and educate our own children. Our community must support programs who respond to the devastating problem of child abuse. This is crucial to decreasing the trauma and breaking the cycle.

Stewards of Children, Darkness to Light is a revolutionary training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child abuse, and motivates them to courageous action. The program believes and teaches that child safety is our job as adults. The program incorporates " 7 Steps to Protecting Our Children", a set of best practice prevention strategies shown to be effective in research.

Darkness to Light is designed for organizations that serve children and youth. The program lasts approximately 2.5 hours. If your organization is interested in training, please call Michelle Carter at 254-939-2946 x 1(www.darkness2light.org)
